We proudly present the issue of Mozart’s complete piano sonatas by one of the present-day’s foremost interpreters of this composer’s work: Maria João Pires. This pianist’s preference for the classical repertoire in the strictest sense has made her something of an authority in this field.
Pires was a child prodigy and after a career of over forty years still performs all over the world though less frequently than before. In the mean time she has also founded a rather unique art centre, Quinta Belgais, in her native country Portugal. Here she assembles students and teachers to approach music in a philosophic and rather spiritual way.
In her performances Pires is always searching for a way to express the essence of the music. Her angle is more emotional than intellectual. This results in warmth and intensity in her playing. Yet great clarity and directness are also an intrinsic part of her interpretations.
This set has received great international acclaim.
